University of Oregon’s new dean of students will begin in May

paulshangPaul Shang will join the University of Oregon as assistant vice president and dean of students on May 1. In the position, Shang will serve as a member of the student affairs senior management team and collaborate with many areas of campus on matters related to student well being and success.

Most recently, Shang was assistant vice chancellor for student development at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was previously dean of student development at Missouri Western State University, and director of student affairs and director of student and enrollment services at a campus of Penn State University’s Commonwealth College.

He brings to UO a breadth of experience in student development, student affairs administration, judicial affairs, serving students of color, crisis management, facilitation of service delivery through use of technology, academic advising administration, implementation of scholastic standards and policies, orientation, recruitment, and teaching and leadership of first year experience courses.

Shang received his B.A. from Florida State University in Government and Philosophy. He also received an M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from FSU.
